Slow Baja Summer Expedition
Join us for an extraordinary adventure, where we’ll traverse fun dirt roads, savor delectable food, and adopt an even more relaxed pace. The Slow Baja Summer Expedition offers a unique twist. We’ll spend two nights at each location, allowing for a deeper immersion in our surroundings and more time to explore beyond the vehicle.
Open to vehicles of ANY AGE, the Slow Baja Summer Expedition is your inclusive gateway to the beauty of Baja without putting your rig at risk. Our non-competitive, leisurely driving Adventure kicks off at the picturesque, off-the-grid Rancho La Bellota in Tecate. Our gracious host, Raul, will treat us to ranch-raised lamb roasted on a spit, followed by a magical evening around the campfire. We’ll spend two nights at the ranch, partaking in all its activities, from horseback riding to clay-target shooting and some poolside relaxation.
Community, camaraderie, and relaxed travel are the key ingredients that make the Slow Baja unique. Ideally suited for 4x4s or adventurous 2wds with good all-terrain tires and some ground clearance, the Slow Baja Summer Expedition is your ticket to a bucket-list adventure.
Our six-day slow travel experience will exhaust and excite you and hopefully spark your interest in returning to explore the hidden beauty of Baja. With two-night stays and coastal and high-elevation tracks, we’ll be super cool and extra slow on this one.
Nuts and bolts: What to expect? Four to six hours of driving on travel days. Time estimate excludes breakdowns, tire changes, airing up and down, taco binges, dog petting, ice cream stops, spontaneous swims, and silt bed extractions. You will need Mexican driving insurance. We strongly recommend Baja Bound Insurance. We require all participants to purchase Travel Insurance with medical extraction coverage. Check out World Nomads.
Your entry includes pre-run routes, three meals daily, private campsites, and hotel lodging on the last night. It does not include fuel, repairs, towing, or anything else to fix your vehicle in Baja. We will enjoy a group “happy hour” each night, but you’ll want to keep your cooler stocked and bring your favorite campfire elixir and coffee-making setup. On the Slow Baja, sharing is caring, so please plan accordingly. Want to rent a 4x4? Need camping gear? Have questions about your vehicle or road conditions? Hit the contact button below.

Slow Baja Vintage Expedition
Join us for an extraordinary off-road driving and Culinary Adventure. This Slow Baja Vintage Expedition celebrates 1975 and the first 1000-mile Baja race designed and personally marked by Baja Legend Sal Fish. On this Slow Baja Adventure, we will follow the best dirt roads of the 1975 event, savor delectable food, and camp in stunning locations.
As this event is a special salute to Sal and 1975, we’re looking for rigs (and attire) from the 1960s and 1970s. Sideburns and corduroys are highly encouraged! If you have something newer you want to drive or are not totally ready for Goodwood-in-the-dirt, I still want you, let’s talk!
Our non-competitive, leisurely driving Adventure starts near San Diego. We will caravan to a spectacular communal lunch at Adobe Food Truck, one of my favorite destinations in the Valle de Guadalupe. After lunch, we’ll stop by the stunning Adobe Guadalupe Vineyard and Inn to meet the magnificent Tru Miller and stock up on wine for the trip. Afterward, we’ll reluctantly move on to the beautiful, off-the-grid Rancho La Bellota. Our gracious host, Raul, will treat us to ranch-raised lamb roasted on a spit, followed by a magical evening around the campfire, getting to each other over a fine Fortaleza or two.
Community, camaraderie, and relaxed travel are the key ingredients that make the Slow Baja unique—ideally suited for 4x4s and adventurous 2wds (think Baja Bugs, VW Things, and Meyers Manx buggies), the Slow Baja Vintage Expedition is your ticket to a bucket-list adventure.
Our six-day slow travel experience will exhaust and excite you and hopefully spark your interest in returning to explore the hidden beauty of Baja. With ranch stays, beach drives, and the historic route of the 1975 Baja 1000, this Slow Baja Vintage is one not to miss!

2024 Fall Vintage Expedition
The 2024 Slow Baja Vintage Expedition will start and end in Baja Norte. Utilizing the peninsula's most scenic dirt roads, we will drive 500 to 600 miles over five days. Our locally sourced, Chef-prepared dinners and breakfasts will take the sting out of camping --and are the highlight of the Slow Baja experience. A cold cerveza or a soft drink will greet your arrival at camp each afternoon. And for those who care to sip a fine tequila around the campfire, we may have a little Tequila Fortaleza to share. There are no guarantees, as Fortaleza has become the most sought-after tequila in the land. Please pack a bottle or two of your favorite elixir.

2024 Summer Vintage Expedition
The Slow Baja Summer Vintage Expedition is an incredible event that will take place in Baja Norte. The expedition will start in Tecate at the famous Rancho La Bellota. We cover approximately five hundred miles over the course of five days. The event is for cars and trucks from 1984 and older or rigs resembling 1984. If you have a newer vehicle you want to bring, kindly send a message with a photo and a brief description.
The Slow Baja
Experience Slow Baja. Join us for a week of fun dirt roads, fabulous roadside dining, and spectacular campsites. Community, camaraderie, and Slow Travel are the ingredients that make The Slow Baja unique. Ideally suited for 4x4 Overland rigs with good all-terrain tires and a bit of ground clearance, the Slow Baja is your ticket to a Baja bucket-list adventure!
Our seven-day, non-competitive, driving adventure starts at the beautiful off-the-grid Rancho La Bellota in Tecate. Raul, our generous host, promises to warm our souls with a hearty campfire and a ranch-raised lamb roasting on a spit. From Tecate, we will slowly weave our way down the peninsula to the beautiful oasis of San Ignacio in Baja Sur.
During our two-night stay in San Ignacio, we will have plenty of time to explore the town. We've planned a whale watching excursion (additional fee) and tour of the stunning Misión de San Ignacio Kadakaamán. And no trip to San Ignacio is complete without a stop to see Oskar, our favorite Michelada maker on the peninsula. An essential component of Slow Baja is giving back to the place and the people that bring us so much happiness. I'm proud to announce that our friend Matthew Schnitzer, founder of Barbers for Baja, will be on the Slow Baja to launch our new project --delivering much-needed baseball equipment to teams and coaches in Baja. The long-serving baseball coach in San Ignacio will receive our first gear donation.
Open to vehicles of all ages, our seven-day slow travel experience will exhaust and excite you and hopefully spark your interest to return and explore the hidden beauty of Baja. We will spend our final night in a hotel and celebrate the adventure with a beach party on the sunny shores of the Gulf of California. We don't strive to be the largest or the longest Baja event —we won't cover the most miles, but we'll cover the best miles and have the most smiles.

Your entry includes a pre-run route, pre-selected campsites, and dinner and breakfast on the two nights we camp at ranches. Your entry does not include fuel, repairs, towing, and anything else you might need to fix your vehicle in Baja. Hotel rooms (where available) are not included. We will camp on several nights. Camping gear will not be provided. There will be an opportunity to go whale watching. The fee for whale watching is not included. Sharing meals, cervezas, cocktails, and camaraderie is highly encouraged. Want to rent a 4x4? Have questions about your vehicle or road conditions? Hit the contact button below. Let's talk!

Slow Baja Vintage Expedition
Our 2023 Slow Baja Vintage Expedition will kick off in sunny San Felipe. Over five days, our rugged and scenic route will cover approximately 700 miles, mostly on dirt. The trip will focus on having fun while building community and camaraderie as we explore Baja Norte in our old rigs.
There will be plenty of time for stops. We'll stop for gas. We will stop to water the cactus. We'll stop for photos and, most importantly, for lunch at my favorite taco stands and restaurants. When we get to camp in the late afternoon, you'll have plenty of time to set up your tent and enjoy a soft drink or a cold Cerveceria Transpeninsular craft beer. Our locally sourced, Chef-prepared dinners will amaze your senses and please your palate.
Under inky-black skies and countless stars, we will share a few laughs around the campfire as we sip a Tequila Fortaleza. After the campfire burns down you’ll turn in for the night. Hot coffee and tea will help us greet the rising sun, and after a hearty breakfast, we will hit the trail for another day of adventure.
The first event of its kind, the Slow Baja Vintage Expedition is for cars and trucks from 1993 and older (or rigs that look like 1993) and motorcycles from 1980 and older. Do you want to experience Slow Baja? Hit the contact button below for more information.
Adam Sheard co-hosts the event. When he's not restoring bikes at Speed Deluxe in Chattanooga, Tennessee you can find him hosting vintage dirt rides around the United States.
The entry fee covers one vehicle and two people, $200 for each additional person.
$500 (non-refundable) deposit holds your spot. Book here.
